Vorsprung durch Technik efficiency technology

11 September 2009

At Audi, Vorsprung durch Technik is not simply our advertising slogan.  It's at the heart of everything we do.  By using technology intelligently, we can create cars that are genuinely progressive.  One of the ways we measure progress in today's car is how efficiently it uses fuel, which is why new engine technology is at the forefront of so much of our work.  Every year we take part in the Le Mans 24 hour endurance race.  But for us, it isn't simply about coming first.  It's an essential part of the development of highly efficient fuel-injection systems.

Our new TDI engines are a direct result of this.  And among the most frugal we've ever made.  Take the Audi A4 2.0 TDIe, for example.  At 120g/km of CO2, it's our lowest A4 ever.  Or the new Audi A3 1.6 TDI.  At just 109g/km, it's one of the lowest in its class.  Or the Audi TT TDI which can do 53.3 mpg of 600 miles on a single tank.  Even the current A6 is up to 17% more fuel efficient that its predecessor.

We've made fuel efficiencies in performance models too.  The new S4 has a supercharged engine, but two cylinders fewer.  The result is not only 97g/km improvement in CO2 emissions but also a 0.5 second inprovement from 0-60mph.  Of course, with every innovations comes the challenge to creat new ones.  And that's what we'll contine to do.  For as long as we put Vorsprung durch Technik on our adverts in fact.

Offical fuel consupmtion figures for the A3, A4, TT, A6 and S4 range in mpg (1/100km): from Urban 19.1 (14.8)-56.5(5.0), extra Urban 36.2 (7.8)-76.3 (3.7), Combined 27.2 (10.4)-68.9 (4.1), CO2 emissions from 109-250g/km
